Sony returns to Intergeo with innovative drone solutions for surveyors

Reading Time: 2 minutes

Sony is returning to Intergeo in Stuttgart from 24 to 26 September for the second consecutive year, recognizing it as a key platform for the geospatial industry. This year, Sony, in collaboration with Gremsy, a leader in gimbal technology, will showcase their latest plug-and-play solutions designed for drone users and manufacturers.

The Pixy LR S-Port gimbal, developed for a direct integration with Sony’s dedicated drone camera, the ILX-LR1, enhances any drone payload with improved agility, reliability, and lightweight design, optimizing operations by balancing flight time with data capture and processing availability.

Gremsy stands as a prominent leader among gimbal manufacturers, and its close partnership with Sony over the past two years has culminated in the creation of sophisticated all-in-one solutions tailored for diverse applications and drone platforms. These solutions feature a lightweight, compact design that enhances payload efficiency while reducing environmental impact.

Escalating demand

In response to the escalating demand for high-quality imaging among professional and commercial drone users, Sony has introduced the ILX-LR1 camera, developed through direct engagement with partners and market insights. This innovative camera incorporates Sony’s renowned imaging technology within a lightweight form factor, equipped with specialized features. Complementing the ILX-LR1, Gremsy has engineered the PIXY LR (Standard version) gimbal, which offers extensive customization options for professional drone manufacturers. Additionally, the Pixy LR S-Port provides a user-friendly plug-and-play solution, facilitating seamless integration into existing drone workflows. This collaboration exemplifies the commitment to advancing the capabilities of geospatial professionals and enhancing operational efficiency in the field.

In July this year, the PIXY MR gimbal was released, expanding ILX-LR1 gimbal possibilities to major drone platforms. The solution supports all compatible Pilot, camera, and gimbal control functions and offers a variety of lenses for excellent images.

The existing Pixy-LR, Pixy-LR S-Port and Pixy MR serve both drone professionals and more amateur end-users.

The Sony ILX-LR1 features a 61MP back-illuminated Exmor R CMOS imaging sensor, powered by Sony’s exclusive BIONZ XR processors. This advanced technology enables the camera to capture images continuously at up to three frames per second for extended periods, or up to eight frames per second in burst mode when needed. Compact and lightweight, the camera measures 74 x 100 x 42.5 mm and weighs just 243g. It is equipped with screw mounts on the front, back, sides, top, and bottom, allowing for versatile attachment to various frames, as well as a standard UNC 1/4-inch tripod mount for ground operation or lab presetting.
