MoLaS Workshop to Advance Underwater Lidar and 3D Mapping Technology Workshop

On November 27 and 28, Freiburg, Germany, will host the fifth international MoLaS – Mobile Laser Scanning Technology Workshop, organized by the Fraunhofer Institute for Physical Measurement Techniques (IPM). This workshop will feature leading experts discussing the forefront of 3D mapping technology using Lidar.

Focusing on infrastructure monitoring, the event will highlight innovations in underwater laser scanning, bringing together scientists, service providers, manufacturers, and technology users. Attendees can look forward to an engaging application session that includes three key presentations on underwater Lidar:

  • “Subsea Lidar Solutions: Airborne and Underwater Mapping and Inspection” by Christoph Werner of Fraunhofer IPM.
    “Integration of the Fraunhofer Underwater Lidar System on the HCU Survey Vessel DVocean” by Ellen Werner from HafenCity Universität Hamburg.
    “Monitoring on German Federal Waterways: Challenges and Perspectives” presented by Florian Zimmermann from BfG Bundesanstalt für Gewässerkunde.

In addition to these sessions, the workshop will include eleven talks on essential technology drivers and future applications of Lidar. Topics such as the latest trends in autonomous measurement robotics and real-time AI for mobile mapping systems will also be explored.

Freiburg, renowned for its commitment to sustainability and scientific innovation, offers a picturesque backdrop for the workshop. Attendees can enjoy the city’s historical architecture and vibrant local culture, with the event taking place at the Fraunhofer Institute for Physical Measurement Techniques IPM, the largest Fraunhofer site in Germany.
